Phonics
?
Phonics is a scientific method of teaching children how to read and write by connecting spoken sounds (phonemes) with written letters (graphemes).
Through phonics, children learn to decode words by sounding them out and encode them by breaking them into sounds.
For example, the letter “s” makes the sound /s/ and “sh” makes /?/ as in ship.
Phonics includes five core components:
1. Letter–Sound Recognition
2. Blending (joining sounds to read words)
3. Segmenting (breaking words into sounds for spelling)
4. Sight Words (non-decodable words)
5. Spelling & Pronunciation Rules
Phonics can be started early to build a strong language foundation and is ideal for pre-primary, kindergarten, and early primary students.
Recommended Age Groups:
