What is Abacus & Why Should Children Learn It?

The abacus is an ancient calculating tool that has been used for thousands of years to perform arithmetic operations. It consists of a frame with beads that can be moved along rods to represent numbers.

Learning the abacus helps children develop excellent concentration, memory, and visualization skills. It also strengthens both sides of the brain and enhances problem-solving abilities.

As children progress, they begin to perform complex calculations mentally by visualizing the abacus — a technique known as “mental arithmetic.” This boosts confidence and academic performance in mathematics.
